Biography
Attorney Matthew Sponheimer has always considered southern Connecticut home. He was raised in Orange, CT, and attended Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT. Upon graduation, he attended Amherst College where he played football and was a pre-season All American, two time All-NESCAC selection, and two time undefeated conference champion. Attorney Sponheimer went on to attend UConn Law School as a Connecticut Scholar, receiving a full academic scholarship. At UConn Law School, Attorney Sponheimer interned for the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General and received his Juris Doctor and Tax Law Certificate. He is also a member of the Connecticut Bar Association.
Attorney Sponheimer’s legal practice focuses on creating and executing complex estate plans and strategies for individuals across a wide range of asset portfolios. In his practice, he assists high-net worth individuals with a sophisticated approach to preserve and transition wealth. Attorney Sponheimer believes that all individuals can benefit from estate planning and/or trust planning. Some of the documents he uses in his practice include revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, life insurance trusts, supplemental needs trusts, and qualified personal residence trusts. He crafts his documents to meet specific client needs to bring peace of mind to them and their families. Attorney Sponheimer also aids individuals in Medicaid planning, utilizing wills and trusts to best preserve assets for clients that foresee substantial medical care expenses on the horizon. He also drafts living wills, health care powers of attorney, powers of attorney, and HIPAA release authorization forms.
Attorney Sponheimer enjoys giving back to the community by providing his neighbors with a sense of security knowing their finances are in order, not at risk, and preserved to bring joy to their children and future generations.
He is currently a member of Walter Camp Football Foundation which annually selects the country’s oldest and most prestigious All-American team. Attorney Sponheimer is also the Estates & Probate Committee Chair for the CBA Young Lawyers Section. He is also an active member and Programs Chair for the Westport Rotary Club.
